Visit of the Price and Princess of Wales to South Yorkshire

The Royal train was timed to leave Elsecar at 10.50 and to reach Doncaster at 11.30.

It will be seen therefore that it passed along South Yorkshire — between Wath, Mexborough, and Conisborough at slow speed, and the Royal party would thus get a good glimpse of the picturesque Don valley around Clifton, Sprotborough and Warmsworth, with a distant view of the fine old castle and ruins of Conisborough.

On its arrival at Doncaster the Royal train through the centre of the station and travelled as far as the Frenchgate crossing, when it was backed on to the up line, and thus reached the platform near the Station road. The train was easily recognisable by three Union Jacks which were fastened on the breast of the engine.

Shortly before the Royal train drew up to the platform the Duke of Clarence and Avondale arrived, a telegram having been received that his Royal Highness would come by the 10.45 train York.
