Conisbrough Youth Table Tennis Stars
Invincible Three Undefeated
“Three for all…and all for three.” that could well be the motto of Conisbrough Methodist Church Youth Club’s “star” players, Norman Whittaker, Robert McLuckie and David Croxall (picture)
So good are the “three racqueteers” that they are they are the only players to represent the Conisbrough team this season – and the team have won their League for the third year in succession.
The three youths enjoyed a 100 per cent success in the Doncaster and District Methodist Youth Table Tennis league – winning – with comfortable margins, all their eight matches.
And it is not as though they were the only Conisbrough members interested in the sport. Over 30 took part in a club individual tournament recently and competition was so keen that not all games were completed.
Robert (16) Beech Grove, is a student at Mexborough Grammar; Norman (18) an apprentice surveyor lives in Ivanhoe Road, and David (20) of Low Road is an apprentice surveyor maintenance fitter.
The Church Youth Club, in charge of leader, Mr. John Allport, has been an established table tennis side for several years now. Recently interest spread to football and five-a-side soccer.
The Rev. G. M. Watson, Conisbrough Methodist Minister, said this week “They are our three most experienced players and there is no doubt they have a proud record this season. A lot of our members can play the game and about 12 are good. But Robert, Norman and David were so successful that the reserves never had a chance to play.”
