Mrs. Murray Phillpson will present the colours to the new Manvers Main Scout Group this (Friday) evening.

Cinema usherettes, a local cinema manager informs us, are reserved under the scheme conscripting the services of women.

Mr. J. McCall has been appointed secretary of the Mexborough Athletic Club in succession to Mr. J. Lines, who has resigned.

Mr. James Oates, undermanager at Wombwell Main, has been appointed agent and manager of the Wentworth Silkstone Collieries, near Barnsley.

Miss Florence Frost, Wombwell’s ” Beauty Queen,” played her double-bass in the broadcast of a Rotherham orchestra from the Northern studio, Leeds, on Wednesday night.

Mr. Donald E. Nash, of Kingsway, Wombwell, has been appointed full-time clerk to the Worsborough Urban District Council at a salary of £450, rising to £550 per annum.

An added attraction to the Yorkshire Council game at Thurnscoe on Saturday between Hickleton and Doncaster will be the inclusion in the Doncaster team of P. A. Gibb, Cambridge and Yorkshire player, and also S. Matthews, of Northants.

Pilot-Officer Robert Anne, R.A.F., V.R., youngest son of Major George Anne, of Burghwalls Hall, Doncaster, and the late Mrs. Amy Violet Anne, is reported to have been killed while on active service. He was 21 and had been in the R.A.F. just over a year, qualifying as a pilot last Christmas. Pilot Officer Anne was born at Melton Park, Doncaster, the former home of his grandfather, Mr . James Montagu.
