Communal Shelters.
The following is a list of the sites of the communal air raid shelters being erected by the West Riding County Council for those caught in the street during warnings:
Denaby Lane end (two shelters for 50 people each).
Doncaster Road, Denaby (one for 50 people);
School Walk. Denaby, near the War Memorial Park (one for 50);
Lowfields. Denaby (two for 50);
Basement of Station Hotel. Conisborough (48 persons);
Station Road, opposite Station Road Schools (one for 50);
Low Road, opposite Ferry Farm (one for 50);
Castle Street, near the Cleansing Station (one for 50);
Church Street, adjoining the Parish Church yard (one for 50);
Church Street, near the Globe Cinema (one for 50);
Basement of Doncaster Co-op. Society’s butcher shop, West Street (85 persons);
Disused house in High Street (60 persons);
Basement at the rear of Conisborough Post Office (40 persons);
Brook Square (two shelters for 50 each);
Doncaster Road and Crookhill Road quarry (two for 50),
and the Tanyard site, Sheffield Road and March Street (two for 50).
