“Very Busy”
Corporal Fred Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Wood, of 6, Maltby Street, Denaby Main, comes from a soldier family.
Corporal Wood is 25 and has been in the Army for six years, three years of which he served in Egypt. He had been transferred to the reserve list for about 12 months, but was recalled early in August, and is now “somewhere in France”, where he went early in September.
Corporal Wood´s father served in the Boer War and in the Great War, and in addition he has a brother Ernest Wood now serving in India with the Royal Artillery who was also a reservist called up at the outbreak of war.
Two other brothers, Charles Wood and George Wood, have given service to their country, the former served seven years with the York and Lancaster Regiment, and saw service on the Rhine. The latter was three years with the Royal Artillery .
In his letters home Corporal Wood says he is all right, but “very busy”, and he will write longer letters when he has more time. He finds time to read the “South Yorkshire Times”, which is sent to him regularly by his parents.
