Denaby Utd – Denaby 2  Castleford Town  1 – Denaby on the Up-grade.

Denaby on the Up-grade.

Denaby United  2  Castleford Town  1

Denaby United were more like their old selves on Saturday. Their first team were making their debut on their new ground, which looked a perfect picture in the bright autumn sunshine. The attendance of spectators, too, was hopeful for the clubs future, the players showed their appreciation of an altogether happy environment by gaining victory over Castleford, who, after leading by a goal (by Handley) at the interval, were out-played and vanquished by side which served up a really attractive game.

Blackburn, the speedy outside right, equalised the midway through the second half, and Wilkinson, the centre-forward, put on the winning  point, eight minutes from the finish, whereat there was a remarkable scene of enthusiasm.

A Scene at Grimsby.

Grimsby Town Res  2  Mexborough Town  2

The match between Grimsby Reserves and Mexborough Town wound up with demonstration against Rounds, the visiting custodian. He was jeered at by some spectators behind the goal, and one man ran on to the field and struck at him. He retaliated, and the aggressor was stretched the ground before the police could interfere. Officers cleared the field, but for the remaining minute or two play, Rounds was barracked.

The game was poor one, Grimsby were unbalanced by their changes, and never got going properly, while Mexborough never showed any great combination, though perhaps they were shade the more cohesive side.
