Miner For Trial.
“I admit it. I was after food and money. I took a loaded rifle in case I was interfered with,” was the remark alleged to have been made to a police constable by George Booker (20), a miner, 133, Park Road, Conisboro’, who was at Worksop last Friday committed for, trial on a charge of breaking and entering a house at Edwinstowe.
A rifle and nine rounds of .22 ammunition were found in Booker’s possession when he gave himself up to the police at Ilkeston.
P.s. MacDonald, to whom Booker gave himself up, said that when the man came to him and was asked why he desired to give himself up he replied: “For pinching this stuff,” pointing to a brown paper parcel containing the articles which he was charged with stealing, which included a bottle of milk, a bottle of cod liver oil, a portion of margarine, three lemons , three eggs, a carving knife and fork.
