“Did Something With Bren”

Denaby Sergeant’s M.M.

Mrs. West of 87, Annersley Street, Denaby Main, wife of Sergt. Albert West, of an L. A. A. Battery Indian Command, has received a letter from her husband in which he states: “I have received word from my unit that I have been awarded the Military Medal.  I was only doing what was necessary for the welfare and health of the boys.  It was getting unhealthy and so I did something with a Bren, that’s all.”

Mrs. West has not yet received official intimation, but she and the family ae naturally proud of the news they have received.

Sergt. West was wounded during this attack and has been in hospital, but in a letter received on Saturday he asked his wife not to write to him again until she received a new address, because he may be coming home.

Sergt. West has been in the Army for 21 years, having joined the Territorial Army and being called up at the outbreak of war.  He saw service in France, and was evacuated from Dunkirk.  He has been in India for two years.
