Wedding – Saxton & Amstrong
A wedding which aroused considerable interest in Conisbrough, was solemnised at the Parish Church on Saturday when Miss Lillian Saxton, and the late Mr. W. Saxton, 3a, Wellgate, Conisbrough, was married to A/c.2 Peter Armstrong, second son of Mrs. W. Fletcher and the late Mr. P. Armstrong of 3, Markham Avenue, Conanby.
The Rev. Cyril Dodd, curate of Doncaster and Priest-in-Charge of Loversall, officiated at the ceremony, which was choral. Mr. Farmer was at the organ.
The bride, who was given away by her mother, wore a charming gown of white lace with satin beaute panel and bishop sleeves, with wreath of orange blossom and veil. She was attended by Miss Joyce Stephenson, Miss S. Armstrong, and Miss M. Wilkinson. Two junior attendants were Joan Fourniss and Norman Allott. Chief bridesmaid was dressed in blue crepe and the other two in pale blue taffeta. All had veils and wreaths to match. The bride’s bouquet was of white chrysanthemums and the bridesmaids’ were of bronze chrysanthemums.
The best man was Mr. Ken Cheetham and Mr. Brian Armstrong was groomsman. As the bride and bridegroom left the Church a guard of honour was formed by members of the A.T.C. and G.T.C. Both bride and bridegroom are extremely well-known in the Youth Movement. Prior to joining the Air Force, the bridegroom was a member of the A.T.C. The bride is an officer in the Girls’ Training Corps.
