Trumpeter’s Success

AIan Moorhouse (16), second son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Moorhouse, 54, Elm Green Lane, Conisbrough, as well as helping his band, the ‘“New Style Swingtette”— a local dance band, to gain second place in the “All Britain” Amateur and semi-professional Dance Championship Final, broadcast from the Town Hall, Wimbledon, on Monday evening, gained first individual award for trumpet players in the competition.

In the band competition the Swingtette played one of his own compositions, a foxtrot, “Alaney Blues,” and his talent and success can be measured by the offers he received from leading dance band organisations to turn professional.

Alan is a student at Mexborough Secondary School, where last year he gained his School Certificate, and studying science for Higher School Certificate with a view to a university career. His musical career began at the age of ten, when he took up trumpet playing under the tuition of a local teacher, and rapidly became accomplished.

His father, who is a chemist, was for many years was keenly interested in orchestral work in the district. Alan’s brother, Flying-Officer Greville Moorhouse, is serving in India.
