Notices to Workmen at Denaby Main Colliery.
The state of affairs at this colliery does not appear very promising at present. Last week a considerable number of men received. their notices to quit their houses, and on Thursday between 60 and 70 men and boys received fourteen days notice to give up their work at the colliery.
Whilst many of the old hands have been turned off, a considerable number of new ones have been taken on. During the last few months there has been almost an entire change of officials, both in the office and elsewhere.
A fortnight ago the men, it appears, decided to play every Monday, so that this may have something to do with the notices. The men sent a price list to the manager some time ago for consideration ; they also want to commence with ‘ single shifts,’ but the manager refuses to entertain these proposals.
