The Denaby Main Colliery Company and their Workmen

Richard Walton and his wife, and Francis Baker and his wife, had been summoned by Thos. David Webb, of Mexboro’, for stealing coal value 2s. 6d. at Denaby, on the 9th ult.

On the case being called Mr. F. Parker-Rhodes said that on the case being adjourned the bench recommended that if possible it should be settled, and in consequence of that Mr. Warburton, the manager, had authorised him to withdraw the charge, which he therefore did.

This case was then settled, and Mr. Rhodes said there were a number of applications for orders of ejectment against a number of miners for whom Mr. Clegg would have appeared. He had seen Mr. Clegg and told him that the company were determined to get possession of the cottages, and thereupon it was agreed that orders for ejectment should be taken out that day by consent, he (Mr. Rhodes) agreeing on his part that if any of the men did not get other houses within the 21 days he would not enforce the order for a week or so.

The orders were then granted.
