A Masbro’ Man Trespassing in Pursuit Of Game at Denaby.
Chas. Hart of Masbro’, had been summoned by Wm. Horsburgh, Wentworth, one of Earl Fitzwilliam’s gamekeepers, for trespassing in pursuit of game at Denaby on the 13th inst.—Mr. F. Parker-Rhodes prosecuted.
From the evidence of P.C. Midgley it appeared that about four o’clock one morning of the 13th inst. he was on duty at Denaby when he saw the defendant walking in a field belonging to James Braithwaite, and over which Earl Fitzwilliam has the right of shooting.
The defendant was walking about but he kept stopping to look over the fence. He had a gun with him, and witness asked him for his license, and witness charged him with searching for game. He replied to the effect that he had been looking for wood pigeons, but witness told him he meant rabbits. He replied that he was not particular to a rabbit.
Fined 40s. and costs.
