Midnight Adventure near Doncaster.
Early on Saturday morning, three persons, who had been spending Good Friday at Conisbro’, and had missed the last train back to Doncaster, were proceeding home on foot.
When about three miles from home, they were suddenly stopped by some men who were concealed under a hedge. One of the assailants cried, “Your money, or your life!” and, without awaiting a reply, knocked the first man down with his fist.
For a time there was a desperate struggle between the two sections, but the trio who were attacked proved a match for their opponents, and, on approaching footsteps being heard, the “highwaymen” made off. One of the pedestrians, however, missed his watch and guard.
