Stealing a Watch at the Wharncliffe Silkstone Colliery

At the Barnsley Court House, yesterday, George Lee, of Denaby, a youth about 15 years of age, at present residing at Pilley brick yard, pleaded guilty to stealing a watch and guard, the property of John Lavin Stocker, at the Wharncliffe Silkstone Colliery. On Sunday prosecutor pulled off his coat and left it in the fire-hole.

The watch and guard, which were in one of the pockets, were found to be missing, and some time afterwards defendant gave them to Mary Ann Marsden, a married woman, living in Pilley brick yard, saying he had found them.

He was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment.
