State of the Bridge
On Wednesday last, a traction engine, which was journeying from Conisbro’ to Mexboro’, narrowly escaped accident whilst crossing a small bridge near to the Mexboro’ toll bar in Doncaster Road.
The engine was proceeding on its journey until arriving at the place above named, when a halt was made, probably to allow some vehicle to pass. On again resuming its journey, the pressure on the capabilities of the bridge appears to have been too great, and the centre stones were found to have given way.
The engine, however, and its freight of heavily laden wagons fortunately passed over in safety; but the state of the bridge was not deemed safe by the highway officials, who at once took steps to repair the damage done.
