New Railway Station at Conisbro’

The new railway station which is in process of erection at Conisbro’ will, it is estimated, be completed about the 1st of August. On the down side of the line four waiting rooms are to be erected — a first-class gentlemen’s, first-class ladies’, a second-class ladies’, and a general room. They are all to be elegantly fitted up for the accommodation of passengers. In addition there will also be a commodious house erected for the station master, and general offices.

The up platform is to be 156 yards in length, ladies’ and gentlemen’s waiting rooms are to be erected, and a verandah 40 yards long will be built for the general public. The scheme also includes a bridge for passengers, which will extend from the up platform to the turnpike road, so that passengers will no longer be under the necessity of crossing the line. It was at first contemplated to make a subway, but the engineers met and decided that it would be more advantageous to have a bridge.

In connection with the new station there will be many improvements, not the least important of which will be the construction of new sidings. The plans of the work were drawn up ten years ago, but were not followed out at the time in consequence of the negotiations for the making of a new line from Wardsworth to Shireoaks. If the latter scheme had been carried out the station would have been erected nearer the village than the present one, and a junction effected with the new line.

The Manchester, Sheffield, and Lincolnshire Company are proceeding with the old plan, and are sparing no expense on the station. The present station is to be pulled down, and its site occupied by sidings. The work is being carried out by Mr. Wortley, of Doncaster.
