Mexborough & Swinton Times – Friday 02 March 1883
Conisborough School Board
The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Board room, Conisborough, yesterday evening, Mr. Kilner in the chair. Other members present — Mr. J. Wigfall and Mr. E. Greaves.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Kilner, that boys who had not passed in two subjects at last year’s examination be examined in the same standard again.
A Mrs. Frampton appeared before the Board to account why her children did not go regularly to school. She said two of them had been ill, and another was 13 years of age, and she thought they could not be compelled to attend; and, in addition to that, she (apparently a woman about 35 years of age) was understood to say that she had been the mother of 18 children. Of course she was told that the children must go to school.
On the motion of Mr. Kilner, accounts were signed as follows — School account £14 12s., salaries £8 5s., and loan £48 14s.
The Board then adjourned.
