Denaby Back’s Record

One of the players who relished least of all the cricket hold-up caused by Saturday morning’s rain Charlie Mountney. the Denaby United back and Denaby Cricket Club’s fast bowler. He had been released by the football club to play cricket, thus missing his first game for two seasons, and then had to spend the afternoon kicking his heels as Denaby’s Yorkshire Council match with was Bullcroft cancelled. Mountney holds a record for live appearances which few Midland League players can have surpassed.
Before Saturday he played in every one of Denaby’s 53 cup and league games this season and he told me he had never missed a game the previous season, while during the three seasons he has been with the club he has only missed 13 games. In the last two seasons he must have made over 100 consecutive appearances with the team, a splendid tribute to a strong and consistent player
