Doncaster County Police Court
At the Doncaster West Riding Police Court on Saturday Thomas Leeman, Denaby, was fined 10s. and 5s. costs, for assaulting James Townsend, Swinton, at Mexborough, on the 5th inst. A few words took place between the parties, when the defendant struck the complainant, knocked him down, and kicked him.
Nine lads, all workers at the Mexborough Glass Bottle Works, were summoned for refusing to work on Saturday week. Some of the lads were going to work when they were met by three named Blacker, Roebuck, and Richardson, who persuaded them not to go. The three named were each fined 20s. and 12s. 6d. costs, and the other six 7s. 6d. and 5s. 6d. costs, the fines to be given to Messrs. Waddington and Sons as damages.
Four lads named Hinchcliffe, Prawl, Hume, and Shirtcliffe, all of Hexthorpe, were each fined 10s., and 5s. damages, and 12s. 6d. costs, for robbing the garden of John Garland, at Mexborough, the Saturday before.
Wm. Darcaster, Mexborough, was summoned for stealing a spade, the property of Benjamin Wortley, builder, Doncaster, but the case was dismissed.
