Scene At The Town’s Well At Conisbro’

May 1893

Sheffield Independent – Monday 08 May 1893

Scene at The Town’s Well at Conisbro’

On Saturday, at Doncaster, Annie Elizabeth Milnes, married woman, Conisbro’, was charged with having assaulted William Gillatt, labourer, Conisbro’. Mr. Hall appeared for the complainant, and Mr. Baddeley defended.

It appeared that the couple visited the town’s well about the same time, and that each wished to be supplied first. A squabble occurred; the man pushed the woman away, and the latter retaliated, and threw a bucketful of water over him. She then ran away, and was struck by a stone flung by the man.

Several witnesses having been called, the Chairman (Mr. Yarborough) said the case would be dismissed. He supposed the well belonged to the Local Board, and that the members would take the necessary steps to ensure that the people had the peaceable use thereof.
