Water Supply for Denaby Main
The Denaby Main Colliery Company are now engaged on a new undertaking. They are sinking a new well near the river-side, close to the new Cadeby pit, the intention being to supply the village of Denaby Main with water.
It will be remembered that during the sinking of the Cadeby pit several heavy water-bearing stratas were passed through, and some of the water was judged to be highly favourable for domestic purposes. The boring has now reached a depth of 56 feet, and the sides are being lined with wrought iron tubing.
So far the boring has been through sandstone and water has been passed through, though the quality was not considered high enough. It is believed to be the intention to build a reservoir on the hill, behind Denaby or New Conisborough, and the supply will be forced there by a Davies’ Differential pump.
When completed, this will be a great benefit to Denaby Main.
