Murderous Assault.

On Saturday evening a most murderous assault was committed on the road between Denaby and Conisboro’, upon a collier named Neil, who resides at Denaby Main.

The man Neil was, it appears, quietly walking along when a man belonging to the Glass Works threw a stone at him, cutting deeply into his forehead. Upon Neil being brought to Dr. Hill’s surgery, it was found that the temporal artery was cut through and the man speedily bleeding to death. Fortunately both Dr. Hill and Mr. Breadie, his assistant, were at home and they quickly tied the bleeding artery, but not before the poor fellow was extremely faint from loss of blood.

These sort of assaults are becoming painfully frequent in this district, owing to the spiteful feelings existing between union and non-union men, and it is high time a stop was put to the nefarious practice of attempting to murder inoffensive individuals.
