Conisbro’ Horticultural Society’s Show.

The fourth annual exhibition of flowers, fruits, vegetables, and farm produce, in connection with the Conisbro’ Floral, Horticultural, and Cottage Gardeners’ Society, was held on Thursday afternoon, in a large marquee in the grounds adjoining the Dale, Conisbro’, the residence of Captain Johnson.

The show was opened at one o’clock by Captain Johnson, in the absence of the Rev. C. G. Fullerton, of Thrybergh Park, at which time there was a fair attendance.

The exhibits were staged to great advantage round the tent, while the centre was occupied by a collection of decorative plants. In number the exhibits did not quite come up to those of last year, but in quality they were much superior.

One reason for the diminution in the number may be found in the fact that last year prizes were given for poultry—a part of the exhibition which has this year been discontinued.

In the amateur classes there were some very creditable exhibits both amongst flowers and fruits, though in some classes there was not much competition.

As usual, the cottagers were to the fore with the vegetables, particularly in the classes of potatoes, onions, and cabbage.

Some excellent dishes of fruit, as well as some fine stands of flowers, were also shown.

During the afternoon sports were held, and at intervals selections of dance and other music were given by the Wath Volunteer Band.
