Gathering of Yorkshire Foresters at Conisborough.
On Saturday afternoon the sixth annual meeting of delegates was held at Conisborough in connection with the Yorkshire Foresters’ Orphanage movement.
At present voluntary contributions provide for the maintenance of four children (one from Sheffield and three from Hull) at an annual cost of £57, and the children are with brethren at Wakefield, Welton, and Huddersfield.
At the meeting on Saturday afternoon a motion was brought forward by Bro. Furby, of Bridlington, with a view to the development of the movement, and it was resolved that, as soon as expedient, a scheme be completed whereby a suitable house in a picturesque part of the county may be utilised for the purposes of an orphanage, with a resident matron, and it is hoped, eventually, to arrange for a convalescent home.
The annual election of officers took place as follows:—Chairman, Mr. H. C. Stephenson, Hull; treasurer, Mr. J. Roberts, Shaw, Sheffield; hon. sec., Mr. G. Abbott, Sheffield; trustees, Messrs. L. S. Roberts, Wakefield, J. Beaumont, Huddersfield, and W. H. Taylor, of Hull; members of the council, Messrs. O. Atter, Leeds; W. Furby, Bridlington; E. Manton, Wakefield; G. Graham, Bradford; J. Cotton, Rotherham; and W. C. Eaton, Sheffield.
It was agreed that the next annual gathering be at Bridlington, and the half-yearly meeting at Bradford.
In the evening 500 persons sat down to tea, and afterwards a public meeting was held in a large marquee, Bro. W. H. Chambers, manager of the Denaby Main Colliery, presided.
