Obituary – Mr J. Boomer
One of the best known personalities of Conisbro’ passed to its final rest on the evening of Christmas Day. For many years the striking figure of Mr. J. Boomer was frequently to be seen abroad in our streets and country lanes, for night to the last he was invariably found of out-of-door life. Now nine years beyond the Psalmist’s measure of man’s existence he passes for ever from our sight, and on Monday last was laid to rest in the quiet churchyard of Edlington, of which village for over thirty years he was the principal resident.
The mind of the deceased gentleman was a perfect storehouse of local history and tradition, and his long residence in this locality and wonderfully tenacious memory combined to make him often the umpire when any dispute as to past local events took place. As an agriculturist of the old school, he was well known, and always retained his interest in the calling, which, though now far from remunerative to those engaged in it, in his prime was one which could be relied on to give a good return on capital invested in it. Previous to the passing of the Acts which called into existence Parish and District Councils, he took an active part in local government, and discharged those duties with the same assiduous care which he devoted to his own affairs. He leaves a son and three daughters to mourn his loss, to whom I tender my respectful condolences.
