Conisborough Topers

Thomas Cluff, pit sinker, Conisborough, and Frederick Gildard, glass blower, Conisborough, were charged with being drunk and disorderly at Conisborough on July 8th.

Police-constable Truman stated the case, and his evidence was corroborated by Police-constables Hurst and Jarvis, who saw them on the same night in different parts of Conisborough.

Defendants denied that they ever went into Conisborough on the night in question, and called Mrs. Dale, who stated that she saw both defendants at the time stated in the charge, and they were then both sober.

Cluff, against whom were several previous convictions, was fined 10s. and 9s. 9d. costs. Gildard was fined 5s. and 9s. 9d. costs.

Thomas McHale, miner, Conisborough, was charged with being drunk and disorderly at Conisborough on July 7th.

Police-constable Hurst said the defendant was very drunk and wanted to fight. He was very disorderly indeed.

Defendant was fined 10s. and 11s. 6d. costs.
