Colliery Regulations Broken at Denaby Main
Edmund Hutton, a pony-driver, of Denaby, was summoned at the instance of the Denaby Main Colliery Company for a breach of colliery special rule 90 in the Denaby mine. Defendant appeared and pleaded guilty.
Mr. W. M. Gichard, solicitor, Rotherham, who prosecuted, stated that the case consisted of the defendant riding in an underground road without authority. There were no special circumstances.
Defendant, who had nothing to say, was fined 5s. and costs.
Nolan Haigh, miner, of Denaby, was charged with a breach of special rule 90.
Mr. Gichard prosecuted, and stated that the offence consisted of taking matches into the mine. The defendant treated the matter as a joke when the matches were found on him. It was a very dangerous thing to do to take matches into the mine.
The defendant, who pleaded guilty, was fined 20s., including costs.
