Denaby v. Mitchell Main
The visit of the champions to Denaby attracted only a small number of spectators, possibly owing to the football season having commenced and Denaby’s involvement in the Midland League. Among those present was Irving Washington, the county cricketer, who appeared somewhat unwell.
Denaby batted first but made a poor start, collapsing before the bowling of Senior and Jagger, the latter securing his hundredth wicket of the season during the match. The home side could only muster a total of 36 runs, leaving themselves in a difficult position.
Mitchell Main replied confidently, scoring 55 runs for the loss of four wickets, thereby securing victory by six wickets. The result reflected a one-sided contest, with Denaby unable to match the strength of their opponents.
