A Conisborough Man Fined
Jonathan Hilton, a labourer, of Conisboro’, was summoned the previous week for assaulting his wife, and was again charged with using obscene language on the 29th Sept., and with using threats to his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Hilton, at Conisboro’, on the 3rd Oct. The charge of obscene language having been proved, Mrs. Hilton said the defendant abused her about four o’clock in the highway near Lowfield Crossing.
He wanted to know where his clothes were. Complainant replied that all the clothes he possessed he was then wearing. He called her a liar and used a foul expression. He said he would have some from somewhere, and complainant asked how could he have clothes when he always spent his money in drink.
He threatened to put her “daylight” out if he got hold of her.—The defendant did not appear, and he was fined 5s. and 11s. costs for the obscene language, and was bound over in £5 to keep the peace for the next six months.
