Proposed Testimonial to Mr. Chambers
The committee appointed by the workmen employed by Messrs. Denaby and Cadeby Collieries to arrange for the proposed testimonial to Mr. Chambers have now completed the arrangements for the receiving of the subscriptions, and issuing of subscription cards.
It is pleasing to notice the deep interest displayed in this matter by the workmen, and subscriptions are coming in quite rapidly. This is as it should be, for no one has taken greater interest in the welfare of the people and the village than Mr. Chambers during his long tenure of office, extending as it now does over 21 years.
It does not seem like the Denaby of even then, in many respects. The village of to-day begins to assume the appearance of a small town. Churches and chapels of various denominations are now to be seen; many other improvements too numerous to be mentioned could here be recorded.
But one great characteristic of Mr. Chambers is the interest he does and has always taken in the welfare of his employees, and everything that he has had for its motive the improvement of the village.
I sincerely trust that he will remain with our midst for many a great many years to come. I hope to be able to announce shortly the date of the presentation, and other particulars appertaining thereto.
