Sheffield Independent – Monday 07 December 1903
Doncaster Rovers 1 Denaby United 1
At Doncaster, in a dense fog that made it impossible for one to see from one side of the field to the other, Denaby kicked off and scored early on.
Doncaster retaliated, and four times Massey had to save, a good shot from Wynne proving very difficult for him, so that Porter had to come to the rescue.
Dyer ran down, and a corner resulted, but this was cleared, and Denaby went down to the other end of the field, where fog obscured the proceedings so far as the Pressmen were concerned.
Doncaster obtained two corners, and after a butter in front of goal from the second Roberts scored, the ball passing right through the throng of players.
Doncaster got a foul well up, and the shot went just over as the interval was announced.
The fog thickened to such an extent that it was impossible to follow the game accurately, even when standing on the line.
Denaby were very persistent, but the Doncaster backs held them up well, and a good deal of play was in midfield.
Dyal sent in a good one for the visitors, which Longworth removed, and a little play at the Denaby end produced a corner.
Another attempt by the visitors saw the ball strike the crossbar and go over.
Denaby pressed towards the end, and Holmes had to clear from Goodlad.
