100 Yards Race at Barnsley

Yesterday afternoon, there was but a moderate attendance at the Queen’s Grounds, Barnsley, to witness a 100 yards race for £50 between H. Taylor (“Butcher”), Denaby, and F. Benson, Doncaster.

Taylor was in receipt of 15 yards start. Betting ruled at 2 to 1 on Taylor.

The start was a fair one, but Benson never caught his opponent, and Taylor won by a dozen yards.
