Dishonest Denaby Lads

Yesterday, at Doncaster, Tom and Herbert Holt, boys, of Denaby, aged 12 and 18 respectively, were brought up charged with stealing £4, the moneys of Joseph Cramp, butcher, of Denaby.

The younger boy, Tom, has been in the employ of the prosecutor as errand boy. On Saturday last prosecutor counted the money in his till previous to going in the house to supper, and on coming out again missed £4. There was also in the shop the other prisoner Herbert. Prosecutor charged them with the theft.

Tom then stated that he had taken the money and given it to Herbert, and Herbert produced the money from a hole. Both boys pleaded guilty, and were bound over under the First Offenders’ Act.
