School Board
The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Board room, Conisboro’, yesterday evening, Dr. Hills in the chair; other members present Mr. Kilner and Captain Johnson.
On the motion of Mr. Kilner, seconded by Captain Johnson, the minutes of the last meeting were confirmed.
On the motion of Mr. Kilner, cheques were signed as follows:—Captain Johnson (school account), £40; Mr. Holmes (salaries, &c.), £9 16s.
It was resolved that 400 handbills be distributed throughout the town, warning parents of the consequences of irregular attendance of their children.
The Board meetings in future are to be held at 5 p.m.
It was arranged to advertise for tenders for bricking the girls’ school yard.
A short conversation took place with reference to teachers’ salaries, whether they ought or not to be paid a certain fixed salary and a portion of the Government grant. Captain Johnson strongly advocated the teachers being paid by results, and the other members of the Board quite coincided with his views. The subject is to be discussed at the next meeting of the Board.
