Drunk and Disorderly at Denaby
Thomas Pendergrass and James Oates, of Denaby, were charged with being drunk and disorderly at Denaby on the 18th ult.
The defendants did not appear.
P.c. Midgley proved the case, stating that on the day named he heard a disturbance opposite to the public-house and went to see what was the matter. He saw the defendants there very drunk and disorderly. Although he requested the defendants to go away and keep the peace they persisted in continuing their disturbance for a long time before they would do so.
The reason they were not present that morning was because if they had come they said they knew they would be sent to Wakefield, as they had no money with which to pay the fine, whilst if they remained away time would be given them to pay the money. (Laughter.)
A fine of 5s. and costs was imposed.
