Application under the Small Tenements Act

Mr. Hall made an application on behalf of Mr. Caleb Kilner, of Conisboro’, under the Small Tenements Act, asking the Bench to make an order on a man named Thompson to remove from the premises he now occupied.

Mr. Kilner stated that a little over two years ago he let a house to the defendant for 3s. per week. He left and the rent was paid by his son, who worked for him (witness). He had never recognised the son as a tenant. He gave the defendant notice to quit on the 6th Oct., but he had not complied with the notice.

Defendant stated that there was not an empty cottage in Conisboro’, and that if he had to remove from the house he must leave the village altogether.

An order was made on Thompson to leave the house within 21 days.
