Conisboro’ School Board

The monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Board-room, Conisboro’, last (Thursday) night, Dr. Hills in the chair; other members present, Messrs. G. Walker, G. E. Nicholson, and Captain Johnson.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

The Chairman stated that since the last meeting was called Mr. Kilner, he was sorry to say, had sent in his resignation as a member of the Board.

The following letter had been sent to Mr. Kilner:—

Dear Sir,—We, the undersigned, members of the Conisboro’ School Board, learn with much concern and regret that it is your intention to resign your appointment as vice-chairman and member of the Conisboro’ School Board.

Being deeply sensible of the value of your services as one of our oldest members, we beg very earnestly to ask you to reconsider your decision. We ask you to do so not only as a personal favour to ourselves as a Board, but because we know that your presence on our School Board is invaluable to the parish of Conisboro’.

Your business capabilities, combined with your uniform courtesy and consideration towards your fellow members, your upright, impartial, and honourable conduct, both in public and private, are some of the many considerations which have induced us in this manner to express the great anxiety which we feel to retain you as one of the members of the Board.

With every hope that this request may be acceded to by you, we beg to remain, yours very faithfully, Rowland Hills (chairman), E. A. Johnson, G. T. Nicholson, and G. Walker.

The Clerk stated that he had that (Thursday) morning seen Mr. Kilner, and he was glad to say that at the urgent request of the Board he (Mr. Kilner) had consented to withdraw his resignation, though at the time he sent it he was fully determined to carry it out.

Certain tenders were received for bricking the girls’ school yard. It was decided to ascertain before giving the contract to anyone, whether or not each one had included the bricking of the entrance to the yard.

Several irregular attendances were dealt with.

It was decided to revise the head teacher’s salaries for the coming school year.

A cheque for £5, school accounts, was signed, and the Board adjourned.
