The Denaby Hospital Scheme
Another Meeting.
An adjourned meeting of the employees of the Denaby and Cadeby Collieries to consider the hospital scheme, was held on Friday evening in the Kensington Street Schools. There was a very poor attendance, only about a dozen persons attending.
Mr. William Gibbons, the president, presided, and Mr. Leebetter, the secretary, was also present.
The rules, as amended, were passed.
Mr. K. ASTON complained as to the number of persons present.
Mr. MOSLEY was of opinion that the men were all satisfied that the committee were doing their work well, or else they would have been present to move some alteration.
The CHAIRMAN, referring to the pastness of the rules, said if the men did not attend those meetings to see that the business was transacted in a proper way, then it was their duty to do what they thought proper.
After discussion it was decided that one thousand copies be printed, and any subscriber on making application to the secretary would be entitled to a copy. Any outsider who charged 6d. The election of auditors then took place, and Mr. Graham, for Cadeby, and Mr. O. Mills, for Denaby, were appointed.
It was decided to pay them 2s. for auditing the accounts of last year, and 5s. for the present rate of work.
The CHAIRMAN said the committee were giving very careful consideration to the question of erecting a workmen’s ward.
After some discussion it was understood that those present were in favour of having a ward, and a resolution was passed accordingly.
A gentleman raised the question as to whether any other trades in Denaby or Conisbrough had been asked to co-operate with them.
The SECRETARY said the Glass-bottle workers had informed him that they were going to continue to support the Mexborough Institution.
Further discussion ensued upon the question of forming a Ladies’ Committee. It was thought one was desirable, as most important work was accomplished by such a body. It was ultimately decided that the committee invite the co-operation of ladies in order to further the objects.
Dr. Wilson explained that it was very important that one should be formed, as they accomplished a very useful work.
