Splendid Struggle at Denaby
Denaby United 2 Hinckley 0
Notwithstanding the bad weather and the saturated condition of the Denaby ground, a capital game was witnessed between a United team and Hinckley.
The first half produced a splendid struggle, but neither side could claim the advantage, although both sets of forwards missed golden opportunities. The game was very evenly contested, the defence of both sides having plenty of work.
The second half saw Denaby have the better of matters, and within ten minutes they were two goals to the good, through Dyal and Hosey. The visitors never really looked up after this, and were thoroughly beaten. Their forwards played a capital game, however, and were quicker on the ball than the home men, their halves were fairly good, whilst Pick in goal was covered by two excellent backs.
Massey, in the Denaby goal, brought off some fine saves, whilst Lawley and Porter played a strong game. The halves and the forwards played well, and completely beat the visitors in the second moiety. Denaby thoroughly deserved their victory.
