Theft of Sawdust at Mexboro’

Wilfred Taylor, a carter, of Old Denaby, was summoned at the instance of the Denaby and Cadeby Main Collieries, Ltd., for stealing sawdust on the 14th April.

Mr. Baddiley prosecuted.

It appears that on the date named the defendant was sent with nine bags of sawdust to the market hall at Denaby and to the hotel, but instead of delivering them all he sold one bag to a butcher. They had ascertained that this was not the first time he had done it. The company wanted to put a stop to such an undesirable practice.

The horse keeper, who gave the defendant the bags, and a watchman at Denaby, gave evidence to this effect, and the defendant pleaded guilty.

The Chairman said they could send the defendant to prison for taking his employer’s goods, and selling them to his own advantage, but they understood the company did not press the case, and that the defendant had hitherto borne a good character.

He would have to pay the costs, £2 1s. 3d.
