Wise Caution
Although the water supply to the Conisborough urban district is at present abundant, and consumption is said to be at the rate of 22 gallons per head per day, the Denaby and Cadeby Colliery Company, who furnish the supply, have been obliged to turn down Mexborough’s overtures for an auxiliary service.
They have in mind, of course, the heavy influx in the population of Conisborough and Denaby which will result from the development of the collieries there. Already 700 houses are planned to deal with the first instalment of it, and in the next few years they may have five thousand more thirsts to assuage, and they have no assurance that the Cadeby supply is illimitable.
We cannot complain of their caution. While the present parochial system of government continues we must expect charity to begin at home and stay there.
