Returned unopposed at the first attempt, is a native of Tipton, Staffs., has been at Denaby 25 years, and works at Cadeby Main. Has taken a keen interest in trade unionism and been Cadeby branch delegate to Y.M.A. since 1929, treasurer of checkweigh fund since 1927; trustee of Mutual Aid fund since 1930; is a member of pithead baths committee; vice-chairman of Fullerton Hospital Management Committee and a member since 1929.

For 20 years has been superintendent of the Epworth Hall Sunday School, and is a trustee and secretary of the church. During war was R.Q.M.S. of 8th Batt. Y. and L., served in France, Belgium and Italy, and in latter campaign was mentioned in dispatches and awarded Cross de Guerre.

During 1921 coal dispute organised soup kitchens which issued 330,000 meals; in 1926 dispute did good work issuing rations in Denaby, Conisborough, Mexboro’, and Edlington; and last year, with help of churches, organised a treat for 1100 children of unemployed.
