West Riding Police
At the West Riding Police-court on Saturday, Martin Coyne, a lad residing at Mexbro’, for stealing two turnips, the property of Joseph Dykes, farmer, on the 21st inst., was fined 5s. and 15s. 6d. costs.
Mr. Verity appeared on behalf of the Wath Association for the Prosecution of Felons.
George Harratt, Swinton, was charged with damaging wheat, the property of Mr. Mawson, of Bolton-on-Dearne, on the 20th inst.
Mr. Verity prosecuted. The magistrates thinking the case one of mistaken identity, the lad was discharged.
E. Chadwick, Conisbro’ was fined 14s. 6d including costs, and Thomas Greasby, collier, Denaby, 12s. 6d including costs, for doing wilful damage to hedges, the property of Mr. Kilner, of Conisbro’.
Mr. S. Shirley Blackburne prosecuted. Defendants were two of a party who went mushrooming on Mr. Kilner’s land, and in passing from field to field they destroyed the hedges.
Charles Coupe, Denaby, was summoned for a similar offence but the case was dismissed, the prosecutor failing to prove identification.
Robert Catton, Kilnhurst, was fined 15s. 6d.; George Cutts, Kilnhurst, 15s. 6d.; Thomas Powell, Mexbro’, 15s. 6d.; Shadrach Gater, Mexbro’, 19s. 6d.; Thomas Thompson, Kilnhurst, 12s. 6d.; and Joseph Thompson, Kilnhurst, 12s. each including costs, for damaging hedges the property of Mr. Appleyard, of Conisbro’, while mushrooming in his fields on the Tuesday before.
