Gaming with Cards on the Highway at Denaby

Michael Manning, Isaac Rowland, Chas. Taylor, and John Taylor, all of Denaby, were charged with the above offence on the 6th inst.

The defendants Manning and John Taylor did not appear.

Police-constable Kendall stated that on the day named, about 7.30 p.m., he was on duty in Black-lane, Denaby, when he saw the defendants playing at cards. He went towards them and watched them for about five minutes, during which time he saw money pass between them.

He was getting on some railings when he heard the defendant John Taylor call out, “Stop, the bobby is coming.”

Witness then went to them and told them he should report them.

The two Taylors, who had been committed before, were fined 15s., including costs, each; and Manning and Rowland were fined 10s. each, including costs.
