Denaby Centre Plans Are Taking Shape

C.I.S.W.O. has made a donation of £2,000 to help build Denaby’s first Old People’s Centre which Conisbrough Urban Council plan to erect in Hickleton Street at a cost of just over £4,500.

Mr. R. F. Edwards, Clerk to Conisbrough Council, said this week that the Council had already built a number of old people’s bungalows at Hickleton Street, and the community centre would be built to complete the scheme.

He pointed out that the centre would not be solely for the use of the bungalow residents but for the Denaby who cared to make use of its amenities.

Mr. C. Urch, Surveyor, said the centre would consist of a large communal hall, with stage, kitchen, waiting room, entrance hall and cloakroom. The project would take about nine months to complete and, they hoped, would be completed during 1961.

When it is completed, a management committee—on which C.I.S.W.O. will be represented—will be formed to run the affairs of the centre.
