Denaby’s Easy Task
Denaby and Cadeby went to Chapeltown to meet White Lane quite determined to prove that the previous week’s form against Rawmarsh was all wrong, and they certainly gave a very impressive demonstration of that fact.
The home team had the first turn at the wicket, and totalled just 43, of which one man alone — Chambers — made 25, Luther Robinson taking six of their wickets for an average of three each. Denaby knocked off the runs for two wickets, A. Robinson being not out 23.
It is harder to get runs against White Lane than appears on paper, for they have in Bernard Platte and Barraclough two very good trundlers, but the wicket on Saturday did nothing to help them, which, however, makes Robinson’s success the more striking.
By the way, it was the commencement of Chapeltown Feast on Saturday, and the White Lane cricket fixtures are designed to be one of the holiday attractions. Saturday’s result would not, I am afraid, be a very palatable mouthful for the Chapeltown folks.
