Despite the large number of cases of taking matches down the mine which have been brought to the court, said Mr. Gichard, the practice does not seem to decrease.
Men should understand that if they took matches down accidentally there was just the same danger as if they were taken down intentionally.
In this case George Blount, a filler, of Denaby, was charged with an offence on Feb. 12th, and pleaded guilty. He had four unstruck matches in his possession when searched.
