Riding on Pony

Frank Lewis, pony driver, of Conisboro’, was charged with a breach of special rule 90, which stated that “no person shall ride on an underground road without the permission of the manager or under-manager.”

An offence of that kind, said Mr. Allen, was a very great nuisance in a pit. In that case a deputy actually saw the defendant riding on the pony’s back.

The defendant pleaded guilty. He was sorry and would not let it occur again. Boys were allowed to ride at the pit he previously worked at, and he had not yet seen a rule prohibiting it at Cadeby.

He was fined 20s. inclusive of costs.
