Trail of Blood

Police followed a trail of blood up the garden path leading to the home of Francis Henry Davies (17), haulage hand, of Old Road, Conisbrough, and found he had been taken to hospital with cuts on the face and hands, it was stated at Doncaster West Riding Court on Tuesday.

Davies and George Michael Trench (17), labourer, of St. David’s Road, Conisbrough, were jointly charged with breaking into Wesley Methodist Church, Conisbrough, and stealing twopence.

Inspector Chapman said that the caretaker heard someone moving inside the church and saw a figure pass the window. He found a side door had been forced. He also heard a crash of glass as a window was broken and a youth ran away.

At the hospital both made voluntary statements admitting the offences, it was alleged.

They were remanded in custody until March 25th.
